Funding Cuts: How to Maintain Supports with Limited NDIS Funding

NDIS reviews and uncertainty around funding can be a stressful and overwhelming experience for our Members, their family and their wider support circle.

Home Care Heroes is an NDIS-approved provider, and with many of our community utilising Hero supports for companionship, to achieve goals or maintain daily routines and tasks, we receive a lot of contact from those concerned about how they will continue to access Hero supports if funding is no longer available or reduced.

If you are having trouble in planning for a review or you haven’t received the funding that you need, we would recommend contacting an organisation such as Disability Advocacy NSW who may be able to help. See da.org.au for more information.

How can Home Care Heroes help?

One of our priorities is to do our best to support our Members during this period.

Firstly, we are committed to maintaining a flat-rate of $40 per hour on weekdays, weekends and even public holidays!

In order to reduce this cost further, we also have the option of 2:1 or 3:1 bookings. Two-on-One and Three-on-One bookings allow Members to complete activities with one or two other Members. This also provides an opportunity to make new friends and enjoy a social setting while still being supported by your Hero.

In addition to this, our Customer Happiness Team has shared some tips and tricks that our Members have utilised to make sure that they can continue doing the things they love:

Booking Type: Grocery shopping and getting a cuppa with your Hero

Cost saving tip: Walk or catch a bus to a local cafe and on your way, your Hero can support you to use online grocery shopping to order your groceries for delivery. You can also order online and then pick them up from the shops. This saves time spent picking out groceries but still allows you to have access to food and spend time out and about in the community with your Hero.

Booking Type: Community Access (outings and activities)

Cost saving tip: Organise a 2:1 or 3:1 booking with your Hero and other Members. If you don’t know any other Members, call our team and we can look to find other Members with similar interests and of a similar age. You may also like to attend a meet-up together! You can find out more information about Home Care Heroes meet-ups here.
