How Heroes and Members can Upskill Together Through Isolation

How do you achieve your goals and engage in social activities during times of social isolation? People with pre-existing illness, the elderly or disabled people are susceptible to feelings of loneliness at the best of times, let alone the added anxiety they may feeling during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. Learning a new skill not only offers a much-needed distraction from the stress associated with a global health crisis, but it can also widen your career prospects, improve your confidence, your independence and overall sense of achievement.

Known for our top-rated and affordable companionship and non-medical home care packages, Home Care Heroes is determined to end loneliness in our community, helping our Members maintain a positive state of emotional wellbeing and reach their goals through these challenging times. That’s why we have launched Video Bookings, a new way of connecting via FaceTime, WhatsApp Video Call, Facebook Messenger Video or Google Duo that promotes social distancing while allowing our Members and Heroes to stay in touch and reach their goals.

Many Heroes have experience in tutoring and homework support, and can help Members with a wide range of subjects via Video Bookings.

In response to the global COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the NSW state government and TAFE NSW have announced a number of fee free short courses that would usually cost money. For example, the writing and presentation skills cost is normally $1,570 but is now free of charge for eligible students. The courses are flexible, online, and teach practical skills that can be completed in just days or weeks and can be applied across a wide range of industries. You could obtain valuable business skills to add to your resume, such as digital literacy or customer service, plus more courses are expected to be announced.

This presents a great opportunity to reach your goals by improving your business knowledge. It is also an activity you could do together with your Hero. For example, if you are a Home Care Heroes Member who wants to do the computing skills course or digital literacy skills course but would feel more comfortable with someone who is there to talk you through it and answer your questions. If you would like some assistance with your training, you can find and choose the Hero most suited to your needs to provide help or tutoring via a video booking.

Bookings are made on the Home Care Heroes platform as normal, the main difference is that there is an added extra option under "Video Booking" when you make a new booking request. The person receiving the booking will also see an indication that this is a video booking. Pricing for video bookings remains at the $40 per hour flat rate including weekends and public holidays, with a 1 hour minimum.

If you have any questions about becoming a Member or how video bookings can help you to reach your goals, our friendly team are happy to help. Call us 8.30am - 5.30pm, Monday – Friday on 02 8310 7531
